I woke up at 3.30am this morning with a jolt. I remembered it was Thursday; the day I send out this newsletter, Impact Loop. I had not written a word.
I could have pulled together a short, sharp leadership idea for you this morning and you would never have known. And I don’t want to sound like a saint, since that is precisely what I have done for a few weeks now. But today I stopped myself.
I have decided to follow my own advice and lead with courage; share what is going on in my world and why I would like to propose something a little different from here.
First, I have never been good at saying no but I am learning, fast. The reality is, I have only one priority at the moment - finishing my next book.
I am deep in my writing cave at the moment and loving it. This is one of the happiest places I find myself and so different from the very public work I do when speaking on stage or working with clients. My next manuscript is due to my publishers on 1 October, with the book to be released mid-next year. I truly can’t wait to share it with you.
Second, I have been worried for a while now that Impact Loop was, ironically, not having much impact.
The short, sharp leadership ideas are enjoyed by some but I wonder whether they hold enough value to send out every week. I think I made a rod for my own back by making it a weekly newsletter too - every Thursday rolls around very quickly!
So here’s what I am thinking, and I share this with you in the spirit of humility and curiosity, while also being acutely aware of how grateful I am to have you subscribe at all.
I would like to move away from a regular, weekly newsletter and towards one that is more meaningful, but less regular, and only shared when I actually have something to say, new research to share, books to recommend, ideas to consider.
As always, your feedback is very welcome. Or if you want to indicate your thoughts via the poll below, that would be fabulous too.
In the meantime, I am heading back into the cave. I fly to the US and Canada for two weeks shortly for more speaking events but after that I will be head down and writing. Sheer bliss!
PS. The image above is an artwork called Resurrection (1966) by Alma Thomas. I saw an exhibition of Thomas’ work at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC last week and loved it. Highly recommend if you get a chance to see any of her work.
If it works for you - then it will undoubtedly work for those who have subscribed! I’m sure those of us who follow you have done so, because your work has resonated and been meaningful - the very definition of ‘impact’ . So whenever you feel you have something meaningful to share, we’ll be ready to receive it! 💯
Focus on impact for you and for us... if that means book and irregular input, then I shall stop and read, knowing you have something to say. Go well, Kirstin.
