Can I give you some feedback? (Part 3 - After the session)
In this final in the series on feedback, we will look at some ideas to think about after a feedback session. If you missed the earlier posts, you can read ideas to consider before a feedback session and during a feedback session.
Matters to consider after the feedback session
After your meeting with the person you are giving feedback to, consider the following -
1. Allow space
Don't expect an immediate response.
Give the person time to digest what you have told them so they can think about how they plan to address the challenges or areas for development you have raised.
2. Express gratitude
Thank the team member for their openness to the feedback and their willingness to hear ways to develop in the role.
3. Offer ongoing support
Thank the other person for their openness, and invite them to contact you any time in the future with further ideas or feedback.
4. Pro-actively check in
Arrange another meeting to discuss the feedback further in a few days time to allow the person to ask any follow up questions, clarify points you have raised and create a path forward together.
5. Acknowledge improvement
Acknowledge any positive changes you notice and link that positive feedback to specific actions you have seen the person take as a result of the original feedback.
I hope you have found this series on feedback helpful.
